At first, it was simply a thought. Then it became a dream. And now, a reality — the result of the Ehlers family’s hands and hearts, built thought by thought and stone by stone into what is now OruSanga.

It began with a family wanting to say thank you — to the land, to the people of Namibia and to the Creator. Not to compete with the grand designs of the world, but to humbly allow the natural surroundings to take centre stage.

OruSanga has been created from the land and through the hands of Namibians, using simple, honest materials — wood, grass, clay and stone.

Simple lines and layers of natural colour allow the buildings to settle gently into the rocks and surroundings.

The hands of families from the farm have woven grass into light shades, baskets and mats. Uniquely designed clay pots, shaped by hand and fired in the earth, come from the banks of the Okavango River.

Local craftsmen have created the wooden installations and furniture, while upholstery and other elements have been made locally. Wool from sheep in the south of Namibia adds another natural layer of texture and warmth.

Much of OruSanga is therefore from Namibia and of Namibia — its materials, craftsmanship, textures and people.

And woven through it all is the traditional warmth and hospitality of Namibians.

OruSanga is not simply a lodge. It is a gathering at our home — with home-cooked food, open doors and the warmth of home hearts.
